Abstract
Transition boiling heat transfer of water was examined through steady heat transfer experiments for horizontal upward-facing flat copper plate. The fractions of liquid-solid contact in the transition boiling were correlated with the present experimental data : the correlation was Г=1.000-1.347Θ+0.3711Θ^2 for #2000,where q_<tb>=q_<CHF>Γ+q<MHF>(1-Γ) and θ=(T_w-T_<CHF>)/(T_<MHF>-T_<CHF>). The measured results of the transition-boiling heat transfer were well reproduced by the correlations for water. The prediction was also in agreement with experimental data for R-113. Some models of the transition boiling heat transfer were developed and examined by using the macrolayer model and a liquid-solid contact model.
