Abstract
This research proposes a homogeneous charge compression ignition combustion engine system using dimethyl ether and reformed gas of dimethyl ether and experimentally analyzes its characteristics. In the system, dimethyl ether is employed as a high cetane number fuel and reformed gas of dimethyl ether is as a high octane number fuel. The reformed gas of dimethyl ether, mixture of H_2-CO-N_2,can be produced by an onboard reformer. The experiments were made with several fractions of the two fuels to control ignition timing. The results show that the system achieves quite high thermal efficiency over a wide range of equivalence ratio in homogeneous charge compression ignition combustion.
