Abstract
Numerical simulations were conducted on the evaporation and combustion processes of n-decane spray flames in a laminar counterflow. In addition, the validity of the "droplet parcel" approximation was examined. As for the gaseous phase, we used the mass, momentum, energy and species conservation equations. These equations were solved using the finite control volume method with a SIMPLE algorithm. Transport properties and thermodynamic data of gaseous species were obtained from CHEMKIN. Concerning the dispersed phase, we tracked all the individual droplets or the droplet parcels. The droplet vaporization model included the effects of the Stefan flow on the heat and mass transfer between the droplet and the gas. The differences in the spray evaporation quantity and gaseous phase temperature between the cases with and without the "droplet parcel" approximation were found.
