Abstract
The Appearance of human symbiotic robot has to be designed from the point of view of the human-friendliness. In this paper, the appearance design of human symbiotic robot TWENDY-ONE that realizes a human-friendliness and the design requirements from the point of safety and workability is introduced. The cover of TWENDY-ONE is shaped round wholly, and coated with special coatings which exert the soft tactile to humans, and so human can touch with TWNDY-ONE without to be conscious of a feeling of machinery. On the other hand, a part of inner-body is exposed to sustain the movable range of the joint, and is colored in metallic red, and so the appearance design of TWENDY-ONE still retains the remnants of the mechanical-looking. This design method exerts the neutral feelings between mechanical and human-like looking, and realizes the design requirements in safety and workability.
