Abstract
This paper presents a novel transparent treadmill and the new method of walking analysis by using the treadmill. We developed the transparent treadmill, CAterpillar: Type TrAnsParent treadmill (hereafter referred to as CaTTaP). The continuous plantar images during a walking and running can be acquired by CaTTaP. We captured continuous plantar images of 6 elderly during a walk on CaTTaP and measured step lengths by the proposed image processing method. In order to evaluate the developed treadmill and the proposed method, step lengths were compared with the proposed method and a motion capture system. The experimental results suggest that the developed treadmill system has a potential to use as easy gait analysis device.
