In recent years, autonomous mobile robots are expected to perform in various fields, such as in a living space as well as in an industrial establishment. Based on this perspective, a new autonomous mobile robot is designed and prototyped in this research. The robot consists of two in-wheel motors for the sake of simplicity of design and assembly of drive units. It is also effective in space-saving, for a high power and a flexible control for road surface conditions. This paper presents the concept for developing the new type autonomous mobile robot, expected functions, designing and prototyping the robot.
