Abstract

We proposed a rotary-linear ultrasonic motor having a stator which is a single metallic cube with a through-hole. The goal of this paper is to improve the output of the motor with two ideas about the output shafts and preload. First idea is a cylinder shaft with micron-order accuracy of its diameter. It contacts the whole inner surface of the stator and generates preload between the stator and the shaft. The other idea is a spring shaft having slightly larger diameter than the stator hole. By the restoring force, it expands in the radial direction and generates the preload. Experiments show that these ideas have improved the output torque and thrust force.
