Abstract

A cycling wheelchair was proposed for patients who are suffering from hemiplegia. We have proposed a power assisted cycling wheelchair which is using disturbance observer in our previous work. In this paper, we propose a concept of vicarious experience simulator, which allows the user to relive the travel made by another cycling wheelchair user. We used the estimated disturbances log data of an outdoor course, and reproduced these disturbances by using the simulator. The vision simulator enables the vicarious experience in a visual way, by making the user wear a HMD (Head Mount Display) and reproducing panorama view pictures and video as the user pedals. Haptic simulator enables the vicarious experience by using estimated disturbances and haptic feedback.
