Abstract

A knee android model (Knee-AM) is an anatomical model consisting of a femur model, a tibia model and five nylon-cords to imitate the ligaments of the knee. The purposes of this study are to implement a patella model to the Knee-AM, and to realize the knee extension in the Knee-AM simulating the human knee extension. To achieve these purposes, we measured the movements of the Knee-AM during the extension using a motion capture system. Moreover, we compared the 6-degree-of-freedom movements of the Knee-AM with those of the human knee. As a result, we found that the rotational movements of the Knee-AM's patella almost agreed with those of the human knee.
