Abstract

Infrastructures for human activities e.g. steps are almost not designed for robots and telescopic mechanisms will be a solution for extending the mobility of robots. We designed a novel telescopic mechanism which comprises aggregated convex tapes as a lag. The convex leg has unique characters - e.g. wide telescopic range and toughness against mechanical stresses. In this study, we designed high power telescopic mechanism to lift up and/or lift down a wheeled mobile robot. The robo t“Caladrius 3’” which equips two convex legs could successfully achieve the lifting tasks and in the future, with improvements of the telescopic mechanism, we can realize a low-cost practical three-dimensional movable robot.
