Abstract

Electronic control units equipped with various sensors are mounted on an automobile and achieve sophisticated controls through information exchange using CAN communication protocol. However, as the number of nodes connected to CAN increases, costs for designing, constructing, testing and managing such systems also increase. For this problem, we aim to automate connecting nodes to CAN by plug and play scheme to reduce the costs in each process. In this paper, as a first step, we propose a framework of plug and play connection and dynamic allocation methods of unique IDs for new sensors. Through experiments using a prototype system, characteristics of proposed methods are discussed.
