Abstract

We have developed life-sized humanoid robot platforms because they are considered to have ability to work on various tasks using tools and environments for humans. In this research, we tested the humanoids in an agricultural task, harvesting tomatoes by remote control. The main purposes of the experiments were: 1) evaluation of the humanoids' potentials at agricultural work, and 2) investigation of the tools, sensors and the software necessary at the harvesting task. The experiments were conducted during the 2014-2015 tomato robot competitions, and the results showed the effectiveness of our platform. The strategies to use tools and sensors discovered in this research will also be useful for other than humanoid robots.
