Abstract

We need to make more user-friendly robots. A robot eye contact makes us pay attention to the robot. The purpose of this study is to investigate how humans feel about the eye contact by robots, especially not human-shaped robots. The robot detects human's face by color detection and moves its eyes to follow it, because the color detection does not require high-performance processor. These eyes moving robots make humans' feeling of the robots' eye contacts. Most people feel good and are interested in the robots seen by the robots. However, some people are scared the robot. In this paper, we describe the evaluation results of our eye contact robot and the idea of its improvement.
