The posture of welding tasks in shipbuilding takes a heavy burden to the low back of workers. Therefore, the development of assist devices that can reduce the burden are highly required. The burden of the waist is the spinal column standing muscle force and the intervertebral disc pressing force. Conventional assist devices by rubber tension placed along the back reduce the muscle force but do not reduce the pressing force. In this paper, we propose an assist device which can reduce the both forces in comparison with conventional assist devices. Then using a model for calculating the low back burden of the both forces, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed device.
