Abstract

This study verified change of gait performance using Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) by a musculoskeletal model. One chronic stroke patient participated this study. He was measured comfortable gait speed and stride in three gait conditions: without an AFO and using an AFO with two different amount of assist. The measurements were affected side hip, knee, ankle angle and Tibialis anterior, Vastus lateralis muscle force in affected side stance phase were estimated by musculoskeletal model. As a result, lower extremity joint angle of affected side got close to normal gait. Both AFO conditions, Tibialis anterior muscle force was a trend for increase compared with no AFO condition. But Vastus lateralis muscles force differ depending on amount of assist.
