Abstract

In recent years, the power assist suits have been applied in several fields, such as helping the heavy load carrying, supprting formwork, etc. For the usability, the assist suit driven without the power-cable are desirable. In this work, we propose the novel assist suit for climbing the wall and moving along ceiling with build-in power source, that the works at high places and rescue activities can be performed efficiently. The proposed suit has two assistive functions. First one is the gripping assist of the hands based on universal vacuum gripper which can adhere to uneven surface. Second one is the power assist of the whole body movement based on Mckibben artificial muscle which lift and move the body. Two vacuum pumps and a compressor were mounted on the suit.

In this paper, we report on development status and performance test of adsorption type assist suit.
