Recently, a differential screw drive mechanisms for 2- dof (one-rotational and one-translational) drive system has been studied. Multi-thread screws and ball screws of high lead have been adopted for the differential screw drive mechanism for the fast motion. However, machining difficulty increases as screws become high lead and reduced in diameter. Therefore, the authors propose a novel shape screw composed of ruled surface. Compared to conventional screws, the proposed screws can be machined by a wire cut machine. Because the wire cut machine is a non-contact thermal process, high-lead screw and small-diameter screw can be easily processed. We proposed a novel differential screw, which overlap the right and left screws composed of ruled surfaces. We named this novel shaped differential screw as Gaudi-inspired screw.
