We propose on-chip sorting system based on cell mechanical characteristics using a robot-integrated microfluidic chip. In order to sort cells based on their mechanical characteristics, it is necessary to control the position of the cells, to measure the characteristics and to sort them one by one. However, the position control is difficult because the microfluidic chip has unpackaged area and the fluid flows there. We overcome the difficulty by using two pumps for the position control. We evaluated the processing time taken from detection of a target to sorting by using polystyrene beads and confirmed that the overall process was conducted in 4.1 ± 0.1 seconds.
