Abstract

In fields such as medicine, chemistry, biotechnology and other industries, a demand for analysis technology using micro-samples increases to reduce an analysis time and a consumption of samples. Thus, a technique for transporting micro-droplet samples has been an important factor. In this research, we have proposed a novel transportation method independent from sample property utilizing local wettability gradient by an ultrasonic vibration. Droplet samples were placed on a hydrophobic rubber on a transducer. When the entire and a part of droplet adhesion surface were oscillated, the contact angle of pure water decreased and the droplet moved to the vibrating surface. This result shows that the proposed method is useful to transport droplet samples.
