Abstract

Steel towers, insulator devices, overhead wire fittings, etc. in the overhead power transmission system are regularly inspected. This inspection is performed by professional technicians who climb the tower. This inspection method has the danger of dropping or electric shock, which is a heavy burden on technicians. Visual inspection using a drone is also being considered, but the separation distance must be at least 30 meters, and inspection equipment is limitted. Therefore, in this research, we have developed an inspection robot that moves on an escort rail on a steel tower by itself and reduce the burden on technicians. For the development of the inspection robot, we apply the technology of the space elevator climber, which we have been researching and developing.
