A labor shortage becomes a severe problem by progress of aging population and lower birthrate in Japan. Burden reduction and power augmentation of the worker are considered as one of the solutions to this problem. In this study, we developed a novel upper limb power assist device. In order to make the device be comfortable for the wearer, human motion and body shape were taken into account using motion capture system. Based on the measurement results, we designed a device that does not hinder the motion of the wearer. In addition, the drive mechanism was designed in consideration of backdrivability, which are important for wearability and safety for an exoskeleton.
