Abstract

This paper describes a 2D waterflow sensor for marine aquaculture. In marine aquaculture, the inflow of low-oxygen water is a significant issue that can cause mass fish mortality. The inflow of low-oxygen water can be detected by monitoring dissolved oxygen and sea currents. However, using conventional sensors, it was unsuitable for aquaculture monitoring as they are large and expensive, and multiple sensors are required. Here, we proposed a compact two-dimensional waterflow vector senor. The sensor has a cylindrical body and a sensor array on the surface consisting of 6 absolute pressure sensor elements. These structures enable to measure waterflow direction and velocity. Water tunnel test was conducted for the waterflow direction and velocity calibration. Then, a regression model was constructed from the measured data set. It was confirmed that the sensor response pressure could be converted to waterflow direction and velocity using this model with high accuracy.
