Abstract

In the treatment of esophageal cancer, extensive lymph node dissection for curative purposes and the associated high postoperative complication rate are challenges. Intraoperative localization of metastatic lymph nodes requires for approaching the challenges. Therefore, we develop a forceps-type mini-PET that enables intraoperative localization of metastatic lymph nodes. The forceps-type mini-PET has a challenge in which the radiation detection sensitivity varies with the distance between a pair of detectors mounted on the forceps tip. Since this relationship depends on the discretion of a surgeon, the radiation detection sensitivity needs to correct for stable measurement. In this study, we develop a radiation detection sensitivity correction system using the forceps tip angle during radiation measurement. The developed system was able to correct the monotonically decreasing radiation count rate by an average of 2618±131[cps], compared to the true value of 2718[cps].
