Abstract

This paper describes the effect of fan's bending on its performance. As parameters for performance evaluation, wind velocity is used for coolness and torque applied to the arms is used for ease of fanning. The fan was varied in four different lengths and three different thicknesses, for a total of 12 different degrees of bendability. By analyzing the human fanning motion and reproducing it on the turntable, the experiment can be performed with the same fanning motion each time. Experimental results show that the size and shape of the deformation is greatly influenced by the resonant frequency of the fan, and that the deformation has a significant effect on its performance. When the Pareto solution set for the fan was obtained, the longer and thinner the fan, the more optimal it tended to be.
