This paper presents the development and evaluation of an autonomous water sensing device designed for continuous, long-term monitoring of aquatic environments. Specifically, in this paper we focus on a multi-point traveling strategy for environmental observation at multiple locations. We evaluated the energy consumption of the traveling strategies over different observation periods and distances, and use these parameters to construct a comprehensive evaluation of the device’s power consumption. Both simulation and practical field experiments were conducted to evaluate the traveling strategies, and show that differences in observation period and distance between traveling points significantly affect the energy consumption and spatio-temporal resolution of the observation.
