Gastropods such as sea lug, a family of mollusks, live in a wide variety of terrestrial, freshwater, and saltwater habitats. Gastropods have a unique mode of propulsion consisting of soft body tissues, undulating muscle movements, and sliding on mucus. Its unique motion mechanism has attracted much attention from the robotics point of view and is being studied day and night. However, their distinctive mode of propulsion makes it difficult to perceive the state of the body. Therefore, in this study, we will develop a soft-matter robot that can identify its own state through the integration of a gastropod’s movement mechanism and soft-matter-based sensing.
