Microfluidic-based SlipChips are used in biological assays to detect bacteria and study drug uptake under different medical conditions. In order not to waste the fluids during the process, it is necessary to have precise alignment and adequate sealing between the two layers to prevent leakage. These conditions were achieved by using a 3-D printed aligner driven by magnetic forces. This aligner provided precise alignment at different stages of overlap between the top and bottom layers. In addition, a thin film of silicone oil was placed between the layers of the SlipChip for smooth sliding. The magnetic force combined with the silicone oil lubrication provided a good balance between sufficient slipping and sealing to prevent leakage and ensure smooth device operation.
