Abstract
This paper proposes a new sensor placement method to identify target modes of space structures on orbit. The proposed method uses sign patterns of target modes to select sensor locations. First, we consider the amplitude of target modes at each node and find sign patterns. Amplitude is set to be 1 if it has a positive value and -1 if negative. Then, nodes are divided into several groups so that the sign patterns of target modes are the same. We select combinations of sign patterns that are able to identify the target modes. Sensor locations are selected based on a selected combination with the maximum amolitude sum. Numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
