Abstract
A plasma jet (PJ) torch igniter is considered to be one of the most promising igniters for use in a scramjet engine at low flight Mach numbers. Thus, the authors have experimentally and numerically investigated ignition characteristics of the plasma torch igniter in a supersonic now for more than ten years. In this paper, the effectiveness of the plasma torch igniter as the igniter of the scramjet engine was discussed based on results of the authors' researches.
