The Pivot turn in the ballroom dancing is analyzed in the mechanical point of view. The term ‘pivot’ that has been conventionally used in practical dancing is clearly defined as a mechanical movement of body in the ballroom. Natural Pivot Turn and Reverse Pivot are taken as examples. Related movements such as the Spin turn and the Pivoting action are also discussed. The movement in Pivot turn is examined precisely and classified into stages. The translational and rotational movements of the Pivots are analysed evaluating the inertia forces in the direction towards the partner during the turn which has often been referred as centrifugal force among dancers. The difference of Pivot turn from the ordinary Natural Turn or Reverse Turn is cleared. The limitation or the range of Pivot is shown in the analysis.
