Abstract
As to Stirling engine technologies, although R&D work has been done for a long time in all over the world including Japan, technical problems, such as low efficiency and difficulity in raising power output, had hindered its practical use. Under these circumstances, STM Power Inc., U.S., developed a stirling engine which conquered these problems, and it is now beginning to move towards practical use. In this paper, we introduce specification of the 55kWe stirling engine made from STM Power Inc., and evaluate its possibility as systems which will be excellent in energy-saving performance and environmental performance, for example biomass use and a combined system with a fuel cell. Moreover, we also describe the possibility as a distributed power generation.
