Abstract
There will be a strong arcing when the train passes through the insulation joint between the rails. The arc can burn the rails and insulation joint,which may cause serious consequences such as bad shunting of track circuit. We do some experiments on the experimental devices in our lab, and study on how the traction current, the speed of the train and how the current conducts from the train to the rail affect the arc. And we study on if the arc will be suppressed after the rails are connected by the air core reactor. Therefore, we come up with two methods of suppressing the arc in theory.
