Abstract
In this article, the power output control method of a SOFC is discussed through a steady state part-load performance analysis, which is based on the equations of mass and energy balance in all components without heat loss. The calculation results indicate that the cell temperature control with air supply regulation is necessary to operate the SOFC effectively. In this case, the air flow rate should be reduced with decreasing power output, and then the power generation efficiency is improved simultaneously. In the case of the constant air flow rate operation, the cell temperature decreases together with the power output. The temperature reduction causes efficiency degradation. On the other hand, the smaller air flow rate operation, the cell temperature increases with decreasing power output. This mode of the part-load operation is unfavorable to the durability of component materials.
