The air that enters cosmetics during the manufacturing processes affects their appearance. Light scattered by air particles shows a complex behavior depending on their particle size. In this study, a radiative transfer analysis was conducted on a cosmetic layer model. The radiative properties of the air particles and the Pickering foam in cosmetics were calculated using Mie scattering theory and finite element method. Radiative transfer analysis using a one-dimensional parallel plane model was conducted, and reflectances of the layer with and without air particles were calculated. From the change in reflectance due to air interfusion, the new evaluation parameter was defined to evaluate the appearance change quantitatively. Moreover, the difference in reflectance depending on the dispersion state of the particle was evaluated. This result provides an efficient means of quality improvement in cosmetics.
