This study presents our recent progress on electret-enhanced pyroelectric energy harvesting by utilizing single crystal Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (PMN-PT). With the help of quasi-permanent charge of electret and thermal response of ferroelectric crystal, the electrical field can be synchronized with temperature variation inside the pyroelectric material to harvest unsteady thermal energy. PMN-PT single crystal is chosen for this prototype for its outstanding properties in high thermal sensitivity around room temperature, low electrical leakage in low-frequency operation, and low coercive field. Output power density over 1 mJ/cm3/ cycle can be expected with temperature fluctuation of 5 °C.
