Cemented carbide is very hard and usually machined as tool and die by EDM. But EDM causes the formation of affected layer that can influence the original mechanical properties of cemented carbide. In this paper, the wear characteristics of cemented carbide(WC-Co) with different EDMs (Wire and Die sinking EDM) are described. We prepared four grades of surface roughness by EDMs, followed by six grades of grainding, and these specimens were experimented by Block-on-Cylinder sliding wear test. The present results indicate that wear resistance is increased, although the hardness of the affected layer becomes lower than the bulk.
