Abstract
It is said that the structure set on the balls is effective against seismic isolation. But this technique is not applied for the sake of dificulty of realization. In this study, the frictional behaviors of supporting unit, consist of the retainingblocks with taper and steel balls, have been experimentally investigated under sliding and rolling contact. From the experimental results, it has been found that the contact rigidity show the maximum value around taper angle 2θ=60° and damping ratio S/E also shows the minimum value around 2θ=60°. Thus the suporting unit for the taper angle of 2θ=60° can be used as a effective device.
