An experimental study is presented for the interface phenomena and the splashing produced by the impact of magnet encompassed with magnetic fluid against the target surface of water. Magnetic fluid used in the experiment is kerosene-based Ferricolloid HC-50. Magnet used in the experiment is a spherical NdFeB magnet. High-speed movies are taken of the formation of the subsurface cavity and the sedimentation of magnet encompassed with magnetic fluid during the splash. The effects of impact velocity of the projectile and the subsurface phenomena are revealed.
