In this report, we developed a highly sensitive strain sensor employing a surface acoustic wave (SAW)resonator for wireless sensing systems. The aim of this study is to detect the distribution of the strain in the earth crust or giant infrastructures, such as bridges, skyscrapers or power plants for disaster prevention. The SAW strain sensor was fabricated using a quartz substrate, and applied to the tensile test practically by attaching specimens based on the Japan Industrial Standards (JIS).As a result, it was confirmed that the strain sensor could detect the strain of 10^<-6>order with linearity.
