Abstract
This paper describes Transportation Accessibility Improvement Policies in Japan. Three years have passed since Transport Accessibility Improvement Law went into force in 2000. Stations, bus terminals, buses and trains have been becoming accessible recently. But improvement of accessibility is not well fulfilled, as compare to the targets established by the government, which consist of 2010,etc. Recognizing these situations, the government not only continues to give incentives to public transportation operators, but also take community based approaches to support steady improvement of accessibility In addition to these measures, the government is tackling remaining tasks, such as the handle-type electrically-powered wheelchair adapted for the public transportation, audio guide for the visually impaired, etc.
