Abstract
The Ground Systems Research Center completed a high fidelity simulator for heavy vehicles. In this report, outline of the simulator that is named as "Combat Vehicle Concept Simulator (COVECS)" and some results of modeling and simulation of the future vehicles with an active suspension system and an electric drive system are described. The COVECS is a real time simulator for tracked and wheeled heavy vehicles. The COVECS has some features as follows, 1) High fidelity vehicle dynamics model that treats each track shoe and connector as independent body; 2) Evaluation environment of drivability with Man In the Loop Simulation; 3) Hardware In the Loop Simulation capability of chassis, suspension and power pack. By applying of the COVECS, efficiency of research and development process is significantly improved on virtual prototype phase and component prototype phase. And also, the COVECS can support testing of the actual prototype vehicles. The feasibility of simulation by the COVECS had been validated by many kinds of testing results in real and virtual environment. In this report, some validation results on testing of the future vehicles with an active suspension system and an electric drive system are described.
