Abstract
Many of passengers in Japanese commuter/suburban train are forced to travel with standing. In this circumstance, facilities for standing passengers such as handrail and handstrap have important function. However, the study and quantitative evaluation for these facilities had not been performed in Japan. We evaluated the diameter of these facilities in terms of better usability. This evaluation is based on the result of experimentation by ride comfort simulator, which can simulate running vibration in railway vehicle. Finally, we considered the optimum range of diameter for the usage of passenger including aged person.
