Elevator ropes for a high-rise building are excited forcibly by the deflection of the building caused by wind forces and earthquakes. In this paper, Rope Swing Model, from the displacement of upper extremity of the rope to the displacement of middle point of the rope, is expressed as Multi-degree of Freedom model. And the damping coefficient of rope as model parameter is identified by experiments of free vibration. We compare the analysis results of the Rope Swing Model to experimental results using plural ropes by shaking test. Analysis results of the Rope Swing Model are in fairly agreement with the experimental results.
