In frontal collisions between SUVs and sedans, it is important to investigate the impact load transfer into the cabin compartments in order to maintain compatibility between both vehicles. In a previous report, the authors proposed the concept of "defensiveness" using new diagrams, D_<CF>(Diagram of compartment force), C_<CF>(Center of compartment force) and 2-D compartment force distribution. In the present study, SUV and sedan models, which are designed as precise 1:10 plastic scale models, are used for experimental car-to-car crash tests. Cabin compartment forces of the SUV and sedan models are described quantitatively by D_<CF>, C_<CF>, or 2-D compartment force distribution. In the SUV model, the compartment force is mainly supported by lower structures, whereas in the sedan model, the compartment force is mainly supported by the upper structure, which includes the door beltline structure.
