JR East developed a diesel and storage battery hybrid train to decrease negative environmental impact and the operation has been done since 2007. JR East is developing "Catenary and battery powered hybrid train system" as a new system. A test train "Kumoya type E995" at which the new hybrid system has installed was produced in September 2009, and its examination run was proceeded from October to October 2010.This document introduces the background of the development, outline of the test train and the examination run.
