In this investigation, the effect of track irregularities and cant of the curved track on the flange-climb detection accuracy and the possibility of misdetections are discussed. To this end, comparison of results obtained using a numerical vehicle model and the on-track test is performed first. It is shown that nominal changes in angular rates are in good agreement between the simulation and experiment. Furthermore, flange-climb simulations using measured track data are performed to discuss the effect of track irregularities and cant on the misdetection. It is demonstrated that the flange-climb detection system can properly work since the flange-climb is detected using both pitch rate and moving average of roll rate criteria.
