Abstract
This paper provides simulation results of carrier swing of a ropeway during passing through a tower. When the ropeway carrier is travelling upward, it suddenly swings backward in a large way during passing through the tower, and collided with the tower. One of the accident causes is pointed out to be wind gust. In this accident, swing characteristics of the ropeway carrier during passing through the tower are essentially needed to gain an understanding of the cause of the accident. This paper describes basic behaviours of carrier swing of the ropeway carrier during passing through the tower. It has its beginning with simulation model on longitudinal carrier swing during passing through the tower. Comparison results between simulation and experiment are also reported for carrier swing during passing through the tower. In addition, simulation results are reported for the effect of damping force of the damping equipment on carrier swing during passing through the tower.
