Train derailments caused by gauge widening have been occasionally reported even in recent years. Inspecting the fastening condition between sleepers and rails to prevent such a derailment is done by human eyes in most cases and involves a lot of cost. In this paper, statistical analysis is carried out using track measurement data including actual incident data, which regards the multiple item waveform data as a joint probability distribution. Furthermore, an illustrative method to detect possible derailment due to gauge widening is proposed, by using the statistical features obtained to evaluate the deterioration of the fastening condition.
