Abstract
A research section on the history and engineering of Brunels has been established in the Division of Technology & Society, the JSME, in November, 2003. The research section focuses into the great engineers of Marc Isambard Brunel and Isambard Kingdom Brunel who left the valuable works that formed a lot of epochs in civil engineering in the 19 century. The aim and scope of the research section is to collect and evaluate their efforts from the standpoint of history of engineering, and to inform the summarized materials to public as paper, publication, and digital archives. In 2006 of two hundreds birth anniversary of Isambard, some special events will be held in Japan and also England. In this research section, then, we would like to participate in the events.
