Designation of new railway monuments and their historical engineering significance : Concerning railway monuments recently designated by West Japan Railway Co.

Abstract

This report describes four new railway monuments designated by the West Japan Railway Co. (JR-West) and discusses their historical engineering significance. The last designation of railway monuments took place thirty-two years ago by the Japanese National Railways (JNR). The contents of this report are as follows: 1) Introduction, 2) A short history of railway monuments and quasi-railway monuments designated by JNR, 3) Four new railway monuments designated by JR-West in 2004 and their historical engineering significance, and 4) Conclusion.
